Kochel am See is a typical Upper-bavarian village composed of 12 parts with a total of 4,400 inhabitants. You can find all basic institutions you
need for your holiday: some shops, pharmacies, doctors, banks, post-office, petrol-station, garages, public transport to the whole region by bus or railway. For every taste we have the right accomodation. In Kochel am See
there are many bed and breakfast houses, guest-houses, hotels, apartments, camping sites and a youth hostel. You will also find a wide range of restaurants with typical Bavarian cuisine. In Kochel am See we can offer
many possibilities for spending your time. Our swimming and recreation centre trimini
with many indoor and outdoor facilities like two big water-slides, different pools, sauna, solarium and much more is very popular to the whole family. The trimini, located next to the lake, is a source of recreation regardless of the weather.
For enjoying a scenic view over the region we recommend a 4-minute ride with the
Herzogstand
cable-car based in Walchensee. From the station you reach the top of Mt. Herzogstand - one of the favourite mountains of the famous King Ludwig II - after a nice 45 minute walk. Your reward for the hike will be a breathtaking panoramic view.
For people loving modern arts Kochel am See is proud to own a “small treasure”, the Franz Marc Museum. This famous artist (1880-1916) lived for a few years in the area of Kochel am See.
He is called to be the most important Bavarian painter of modern times. The museum also shows pictures of his friends like Kandinsky, Münter and Klee. They all were inspired by the fascinating nature of our region.
Of course there are many more attractions in Kochel am See and the villages nearby: - Walchensee power station: the visitor centre explains the technical process of
transforming water into electrical power - Centre of the village with the monument of the famous black smith, St. Michael Church and beautiful old farm-houses
- Roundtrip by motorboat at the lake (only in summer) - Monasteries in the villages Benediktbeuern and Schlehdorf - Open-air-museum “Glentleiten”: old Bavarian buildings were re-erected in their original
style; in some of those houses they show typical handicraft of past times. But not only these places are easy to reach. Also many other main attractions such as the cities of Munich, Garmisch-Partenkirchen,
Innsbruck (Austria) or the world-famous castles of King Ludwig II, Neuschwanstein and Linderhof can be reached within one or two hours. If you want to spend “active holidays”, you’ve got a huge choice: You will find
tennis courts, minigolf course, well-prepared hiking-trails and bike-trails, bike rentals, boat rentals, diving schools, surfing schools at Walchensee, possibilities for fishing at both lakes and the river Loisach,
courses for alpine skiing and cross country skiing and much more. Every year during the summer season from May through October we are able to offer our guests a big range of events like
